If you were going to stay on Maui, where would you choose and why? Kihei,Napili, or Kaanapali? ?

B C asked:

Staying in Maui for 7 days in March. Want to stay oceanfront condo, 2bdrm/2bath, sit on lanai and watch the ocean every morning. Don’t need lots of activities, but don’t want to be isolated. What would you choose?

    Lanai

A friend and I stayed at ResortQuest Condominium Resort in Kaanapali over Thanksgiving. It had beach front access, a reasonably priced restaurant on premises, a convenience store, two pools, two hot tubs and a shopping annex in the complex. It was also across the street from a retail center with a grocery store if you want to use the kitchen facilities in each suite. I would go back there anytime.

It took about an hour to drive their from the airport.

Lahaina is about a 15 minute drive, the harbor where Maui Ocean Center another 15 minutes.

Frommer has a guide called 17 perfect stays (or something close to that) that comes with an excellent map of Maui. It was worth the price for the map.

Well, you are coming during our winter (translation rainy season). We have had a rather wet one (thank goodness! we really need the rain). Before the south side of the island (Kihei) was developed, it was just a desert with tumbleweeds, so it is the driest part of the island, but not my favorite. I would suggest the Honokowai area since you are looking for a condo. Honokowai is situtated in between Kaanapali and Napili. It is a great place to watch the whales and the sunsets over Molokai and Lanai are spectacular. You are only minutes from Kaanapali Beach, Napili and Kapalua Bay and Lahaina town.

Depending on my budget, it would be Kaanapali, if I had some extra change or Kihei, which will be less pricey. I haven’t stayed in Napili, so cannot comment.
