Learn a language

If you want to learn Hindi there are a few ways to go about it. You could, of course, find a personal tutor and get private tuition. It might be expensive, but it would probably give you very good results. All of which is wonderful if you have the money to do it.

But for the rest of us we may need to turn to learn Hindi online because that’s an affordable method. Almost all of use can find the time to use a self-paced program, especially if our level of interest is high. Certainly, when you first start a foreign language program your interest level is likely to be very high.

So why would you consider learning a language such as Hindi? Well, you might be one of the growing army of fans of Bollywood films. Hindi is the predominant spoken language for such films. It’s a lingua franca, almost. Then again you may be planning a trip to the Indian sub-continent and want to be able to engage with people in their own language. There are lots of reasons to learn the language, but only you know the one that applies to you.

What sort of resources do you need? For most people, you need a quiet place to learn and a computer with sound (most computers these days have sound built-in). You don’t need lots of pens and paper and you don’t need a university education. With the right teaching methods pretty much anyone can learn a new foreign language. Remember that you learned a foreign language as a child, just by listening to your parents and the people around you!

If you have any fear that you may not be able to do it, take heart in that fact. Even as a baby you already had significant language learning skills. They’re still there, even if you have to work a little harder to get them out!
